Explore the Spiritual Essence of Dwarka

Dwarka is one of the Char Dham (four most sacred pilgrimage sites) and Sapta Puri (seven sacred cities) of Hinduism. It is believed to be the ancient kingdom of Lord Krishna and a city that dates back to over 5,000 years. The city holds immense historical and spiritual significance, making it a prime destination for pilgrims and history enthusiasts alike.
Lord Dwarkadheesh Temple, also known as the Jagat Mandir, is the main attraction of Dwarka. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this 2,500-year-old temple is an architectural marvel with its five-storied structure supported by 72 pillars. The temple’s shikhara (spire) rises to a height of 78.3 meters and is adorned with a flag that is changed five times a day. The flag’s symbolism—bearing the sun and moon—denotes that Lord Krishna’s reign will last as long as these celestial bodies exist.

Legend of Dwarka: According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna settled in Dwarka after leaving Mathura to establish a new kingdom. The city was built by the divine architect Vishwakarma and was considered the most opulent city of its time. It is said that after Lord Krishna’s departure, Dwarka submerged into the Arabian Sea, giving rise to its other name— The Atlantis of the East.
